Information Security (InfoSec) can refer to the act of securing digital and physical forms of information and the infrastructure for utilizing, transmitting and storing information. Technology Infrastructure is supportive of securing information in digital form. The securing of digital information includes the practices of Cybersecurity and Data Security.

Cybersecurity

An organization's cybersecurity posture is a preparedness to prevent and respond to attacks on Technology Infrastructure - cyberattacks. Virginia legislation offers the Model Security Plan and Best Practice Guidance in Cybersecurity for K-12 Schools that contains information and resources to support the cybersecurity posture of K-12 schools across the state.

Data Security

One possible goal of a cyberattack can be to access information. More broadly, the practice of Data Security is to protect data as it exists within Technology Infrastructure.
