Troubleshooting the Virginia Remote Student Progress Test (VRSPT)

Overview

All of the VRSPT assessments are administered online using a computer or tablet that is Internet-connected and compatible with the required TestNav online test administration software.  The computer or tablet must be running compatible operating system software and have a compatible Web browser available for use.  Please be sure to utilize the Browser Check available on the VRSPT Home page to check for compatibility.

Details are provided below to help address common issues that may occur while preparing for or taking the VRSPT.

Technical Requirements

The VRSPT requires that students use an Internet-connected computer or tablet with a Web browser where the device, its operating system, and the Web browser are compatible with the TestNav online test administration software. The Browser Check is available on the VRSPT Home page and confirms whether the minimum technical requirements are met. Please run the Browser Check and review the resulting report. Additional information regarding the minimum technical requirements for Browser-based TestNav software is available online.

Common Issues

  • A red “X” or an error message appears when running the Browser Check.
Review the information in the Browser Check report or in the error message to determine the issue. The computer or tablet being used may not be compatible with TestNav or the operating system or browser may not be compatible with TestNav. The Internet connection may not be working or sufficient. A minimum connection of 100 Kpbs (0.1 Mbps) is required to complete the VRSPT.

  • The student’s test freezes or stops responding.
The student should close and restart the browser. The student should go to the Test Sign In page and type his/her Username and Password to sign into the test again. The student’s previously entered answers will be saved, and the test will re-open on the last visited test item.

  • The student is testing on a tablet or iPad and part of the test question is not visible.
The test must be taken with the tablet or iPad positioned in landscape view for the test items to appear appropriately. The student should be told to turn the device so the entire question can be seen.

  • The student completed a question but the Navigation arrows do not appear in the upper left corner of the TestNav screen.
The student should be reminded that each question requires an answer before the forward navigation arrow will appear.  OR
The student may have attempted to answer the question using a “tool” other than the pointer. The student should be reminded that the pointer must be used to answer each question. OR
The student may not have met all requirements of the test question. The student should be reminded to read the screen carefully and that they must answer the item completely.

  • The student closed the browser or Exited the test prematurely.
The student can reopen the browser and go to the Test Sign In page to type his/her Username and Password to sign into the test again. The student’s previously entered answers will be saved, and the test will re-open on the last visited test item.

  • The student should be receiving an Audio test but no audio player is present or the student should not be receiving an Audio test and the audio player is present.
