Computing in the Commonwealth (CIC)

The Computing in the Commonwealth (CIC) interactive dashboard provides an overview of specialized high school computer science / information technology (CS/IT) programs in Virginia. Key highlights are shown in the one-page executive summary attached. The dashboard includes six navigation tabs:

1. Heat Map - Shows the number of confirmed specialized CS/IT programs available to high school students by geographic area, including school division and region.
2. About the Program - Provides information on each of the 44 confirmed out of 81 specialized high school CS/IT programs identified, including the program name and the institutional structure through which it is offered, such as a CTE center, a specialty program or academy, or a Governor’s STEM Academy.
3. Extended & Experiential Learning Opportunities – highlights opportunities available through each program beyond traditional coursework, including internships, capstones, and professional collaboration.
4. Advanced Placement (AP), Dual Enrollment (DE), and Career & Technical Education (CTE) Coursework – Presents information on the availability of AP, DE, and CTE coursework, including the percentage of programs offering each course type.
5. Application Requirement - Shows whether an application is required for admission to each confirmed specialized program and the percentage of programs requiring one.
6. Program Websites – Provides links to program websites so users can learn more about individual programs.

The visualizations on this dashboard include interactive filters of VDOE Division, Superintendent’s Region, or Growth and Opportunity (GO) Virginia Region to allow users to explore programs available within specific geographic areas.

Fine Arts Staffing Dashboard

The Fine Arts Staffing interactive dashboard displays statewide data on fine arts education (dance, music, theatre, and visual arts) teachers in Virginia’s public schools. Key highlights are shown in the one-page executive summary attached.   The dashboard includes two main pages. The first focuses on overall staffing trends, and the second presents staffing vacancy and full-time equivalent (FTE) trends. The first page shows two visualizations of teacher staffing data to include filled and unfilled fine arts teacher positions. The second page shows additional information on fine arts staffing vacancy and FTE trends through three visualizations. One is a line graph showing longitudinal trends in fine arts vacancy rate trends by subject area. The other two are horizontal bar graphs of downloadable data on the number of FTE and unfilled positions. Users can drill down to explore staffing trends by fine arts subject area, school year, superintendent’s region, school division, and by school. 

Fine Arts License Endorsements Awarded Dashboard

The Fine Arts Education Teacher License Endorsements Awarded dashboard provides VDOE statewide data on newly awarded teacher endorsements in dance, music, theatre, and visual arts across Virginia institutions of higher education. Key highlights are shown in the one-page executive summary  attached.  The dashboard includes two visualizations: a line graph showing the number of new teacher licenses awarded by school year, color-coded by endorsement type, and a downloadable data table showing the number of students completing licensure programs by Virginia institutions of higher education.

The interactive Career and Technical Education (CTE) High School Courses and Common Instructional Enhancements Dashboard shows student data pertaining to high school courses completed, credentials attained, and participation in high-quality work-based learning experiences. In addition to providing four years of statewide totals by category, the dashboard also displays a Career and Technical Education (CTE) statewide enrollment map and the top seven results in each category for the state, Superintendent's Region, or school division for a selected year. 

Regional Centers Enrollment Dashboard

The Regional Centers Enrollment dashboard shows the variety of opportunities and programs that school divisions provide to students across the Commonwealth of Virginia. These optional opportunities to participate in enriching academic, career and technical, visual, and performing arts activities are alternatives beyond those normally available in the students' home schools. There are four visualization views for each dashboard by school year and school division participation.

ESSER Funds Allocation Dashboard

Virginia’s ESSER Data Dashboard is a user-friendly tool to visualize the use of federal pandemic funds allocated to the Commonwealth’s local school divisions through the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund (ESSER). This funding was designed to provide assistance to schools in response to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, such as student learning loss and the need for student learning acceleration and includes formula funds as well as state set-aside funds provided to divisions for targeted needs.

Learning Needs Dashboard

Visualizing trends in annual pass rates on state assessments before, during, and after the COVID-19 pandemic can inform understanding of students’ learning needs. The visualization below shows annual pass rates on state assessments. We can now utilize this interactive dashboard to toggle dynamically between pandemic years and pre and post pandemic years and compare the changes. Use the bar chart to compare annual pass rates for specific schools, divisions, and student groups of interest. Use the scatterplot to see the relationship between pre and post pandemic changes in SOL scores and SOL pass rates. 

Teacher & School Staffing Vacancy Dashboard

The Teacher & School Staffing Vacancy Dashboards are user-friendly tools to visualize critical statistics on the public K-12 teacher and school staffing shortages in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The visualizations show the total positions available, the unfilled positions, and vacancy rates for teachers and school staff. The statistical data is provided at the regional, division, and school level to support and improve teaching and learning in the Commonwealth.

National Board Certification Teacher Dashboard

These interactive dashboards display data on National Board Certified Teachers (NBCT) in the state of Virginia at the regional, division, and school level. The visualization of trends in NBCT over the years can help understanding teacher growth in career advancement. The visualizations show annual NBCT participation counts and rates.
