School Dropout Statistics
Schools annually report on the number of students in grades 7-12 who drop out during the school year. These dropout percentages represent the number of dropouts for a given school year divided by the membership on September 30 of that school year.

Four-Year (Cohort) Dropout Reports
Longitudinal student data allow VDOE to report accurate four-year dropout rates for students who enter the ninth grade for the first time together with the expectation of graduating within four years. These four-year, or “cohort,” dropout rates are included in the state, division and school-level reports available on the Virginia Cohort Reports page.
