The Governor’s Physical Activity Program for School Personnel

The Governor’s Physical Activity Award Program for School Personnel provides a structured approach and incentives for school employees to participate in weekly aerobic and muscle-strengthening activities, such as walking, dancing, cycling, sports, and weightlifting. Participants are encouraged to log their activities over a 16-week period and will receive awards based on their level of sustained physical activity. Completed activity logs must be submitted by June 1 via email at vdoe.physicalactivity@doe.virginia.gov.

HB 1215 Physical Education to Include Personal Safety Information 

The VDOE recently partnered with WHRO and teachers across Virginia to create instructional resources to support House Bill 1215 that requires any physical education class offered to students in grades seven and eight to include at least one hour of personal safety training per school year in each such grade level that is developed and delivered in partnership with the local law-enforcement agency and consists of situational safety awareness training and social media education.
