2024 Standards of Learning for English

The Virginia Board of Education approved the 2024 English Standards of Learning at their March 28, 2024, business meeting. Additional resources will be posted as they become available.

Reading and NAEP Framework Analysis Now Available

As part of the comprehensive review of the Standards of Learning to increase rigor and expectations for students, VDOE had an external party review the new English Standards of Learning (SOL) in comparison to the  Reading Framework for the 2026 National Assessment of Educational Progress (nagb.gov) NAEP is a national assessment that sets the benchmark for what students should know and the progress of the nation’s students. The crosswalk and analysis found overall strong alignment between Virginia’s new English SOL and the NAEP Reading Framework. More information can be found in the Summary of Analysis between Virginia Standards of Learning document.
