Virginia families have access to a wealth of health and wellness resources designed to support children’s physical, mental, and emotional well-being. State agencies and community organizations offer programs and guidance on topics ranging from nutrition and disease prevention to mental health, safety, and family support. This collection brings together trusted tools and services to help families across the Commonwealth foster healthier, more resilient lives.
Mental Health
If you or a loved one is experiencing a mental health crisis, you can also reach out for immediate help through a hotline.
- All Virginians can dial 988 and get directly connected to mental-health support in moments of crisis. Visit the 988 website to learn more about this important new resource.
- Suicide Prevention Resources are available from the Office of Behavioral Health & Student Safety and the Virginia Department of Health to support parents, teachers, school administrators, and school counselors
- The Virginia Department of Social Services hosts a Family Violence and Sexual Assault Hotline (1-800-838-8238). Instant messaging and text options are available if it isn’t safe to talk on the phone. Both There is a confidential chat feature, or you can text the hotline at 804-793-9999.
- If you need to speak to a counselor regarding child-based trauma, you can call ChildSavers Immediate Response Helpline at (804) 305-2420.
Support for Military-Connected Families
Virginia Department of Veterans Services (DVS) has partnered with Cabana to provide confidential and convenient online wellness resources. The resources and services on the platform (on the web and iOS app) are free to all service members, veterans, and family members in Virginia.
The Cabana platform offers:
- Live, virtual, and anonymous personal and professional development and support groups with professional and certified peer moderators.
