Mathematics Advisory Task Force
The Mathematics Advisory Task Force has been compiled to provide recommendations to the Virginia Department of Education on improving mathematics education in elementary, middle, and high school. The parameters of the task force can be found in the 2026 Virginia Budget (House Bill 1600, Item 117.P3). The Mathematics Advisory Task Force is composed of a variety of stakeholders, including mathematics teachers, instructional coaches, school administrators, parents, business leaders, a division superintendent, a higher education representative, and a school board member.
The primary goals of the Mathematics Advisory Task Force are:
- Ensuring all K-12 students have access to high-quality mathematics instruction; and
- Ensuring all K-12 mathematics educators have access to high quality mathematics professional development and instructional resources.
Mathematics Advisory Goals:
- Develop a comprehensive report with actionable recommendations for improving mathematics.
- Identify resources, support, and conditions needed to actualize the recommendations.
- Define measures of effectiveness to evaluate the impact of implemented recommendations.
Recommendations will be informed by research, promising practices, and innovative approaches tailored to Virginia's context.
