Sample Integrated Lesson Plans for Virginia Essentialized Standards of Learning
Sample integrated lesson plans aligned to the Virginia Essentialized Standards of Learning (VESOL) have been developed by teachers from 38 Virginia public school divisions in collaboration with staff from the Virginia Department of Education Office of Assessment and Office of Instructional Services. These sample lesson plans are designed to support instruction of VESOL in the content areas of reading, mathematics, and science. Most sample lesson plans include an integrated component that provides opportunities for students to practice reading, mathematics, and/or science skills simultaneously.
Use the links in the "Page Contents" section to navigate to the sample integrated lesson plans that are currently available.
Use this template as a guide to create your own integrated lessons. This template is designed to guide lesson development and is not required to be used for all lessons. Many of the integrated lesson plans will contain vocabulary Word Wall Cards that may be used by teachers in other lessons. Use the link in the Page Contents below to navigate to the Word Wall Cards section at the bottom of this webpage.
Introductory Webinar for Sample Integrated Lesson Plans
On September 7, 2023, and September 8, 2023, the Office of Assessment and Office of Instructional Services hosted webinars for teachers who provide instruction to students with the most significant cognitive disabilities to share information about the sample integrated lesson plans for the VESOL. The YouTube recording of this presentation, Integrated Lesson Plans: Virginia Alternate Assessment Program, highlights the components included in each lesson plan and showcases examples from sample integrated lesson plans that are currently available.
